Torrid is being prepared for a trip to Kauai and Niihau in August. As the departure date nears the schedule will be posted and hopefully I'll be able to start attaching photos again. Torrid is still in Kaneohe Bay but is anxious to get back into Blue Water.

All is well. My computer crashed, so updates have been a problem.

UPDATE 6/6/07
All is well, except for my computer which needs repairs. I sailed from Maui to Molokai then on to Oahu where Torrid is now back at her home mooring. I did the trip single-handed and did not experience any major difficulties.
Once my computer is back I can add a few photos. For the time being I'll plan a trip to Kauai/Niihau and another back to Maui and then the Island of Hawaii later this summer.
For the time being, minor repairs and adjustments will occupy my time.

UPDATE 5/30/07
All is well, except for my computer. I won't be able to post photos until repairs are done. I'm back in Lahaina after a few days back at Little Beach. Plans call for a weekend at Honolua Bay, about 7 miles North of Lahaina. Hopefully more photos will be up next week.

5/25/07 Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii- Update
Yesterday I sailed to Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii.
Lahaina has a very special place in my heart as this was where I first learned to sail. I was 18, a high school graduate, had a summer before college ahead of me and landed the worst-paying, best-loved job I ever had. I was "First Mate" on the Yacht "Allure". Translation: For $60.00 a week I only had to do everything to keep a 45' wooden schooner shipshape for the tourist trade. I also got to clean up after the drunken tourists, laugh at their jokes and generally have as little as possible to do with them. I wanted to sail, and sail I did.
Captain Louis B. Abrams taught me well. Thank you Cap'n Abrams.
Lahaina is a very historic location in Hawaii. It is best known as a replenish and rest stop for the North Pacific whaling ships. The whalers brought numerous diseases which the Hawaiian population had no immunity.
Lahaina was a wild and wolly place when the whalers were ashore.
Lahaina used to be the Capital of Hawaii.
Today, sadly, Lahaina is mostly a tourist trap. That's just my opinion, I could be wrong. (Thanks Dennis Miller) Lahaina still has a lot of charm. Stay at The Pioneer Inn. It is right on the pier front. The hotel is old Hawaiian plantation style and has a lot of history. Lahaina's other charms have to be actively looked for past all the tourist shops.

UPDATE 5/24/07
I've been out of internet range for several days.
Sailed from Honolulu to West Molokai. Next went to the "Pineapple Island" known as Lanai.
Thereafter went to "Little Beach" on the South East end of Maui. I have a number of pictures which are a lot of fun. "Little Beach" is a very fun and sublimely mellow place to be at any time, however, every Sunday afternoon musicians from all over Maui (and the world) gather to have a fun jam session. The highlight is at sunset when fire dancers join in on the fun.

After a few days at the Waikiki Yacht Club in the Ala Wai harbor near Waikiki Beach, Torrid is again anchored off Waikiki Beach and planning to sail to the islands of Lanai, Maui and Molokai.

May 10, 2007- Update
Presently anchored off world-famous Waikiki Beach on Oahu, Hawaii. Had a VERRRRRRRRRY breezy sail from Pokai Bay this morning. The fun just keeps on coming.
Hope to get some shore time for supplies and electronic equipment installation-auto pilot.

STATUS UPDATE
I've been at Kahana Bay and Waimea Bay and have not been able to access the net. I'm now anchored off Waianae, Oahu, Hawaii and all is fine.
I had a leisurely sail to Kahana Bay where I spent the night. One has to get out and away from the city lights in order to truly enjoy the spectacle of watching the stars.
The next day I sailed to beautiful Waimea Bay. No surf,but that's how I wanted it. Again, another beautiful night.
Today, Monday May 7, 2007 I had a very breezy sail from Waimea Bay to Pokai Bay. Check out the picture of Kaena Point. That was during a quiet time.
I relied a great deal on my wind-driven autopilot. I worked very well.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY- MAY 4, 2007
PERSISTENCE IS A VIRTUE
I used to tell myself that although I might not be the smartest Lawyer in the world at least I was one of the most persistent.
Persistence of a meritorious goal is a worthy endeavour. If your goal is something less than meritorious you may be spending a great deal of your time and effort in pursuit of a fool's mission.
Take time to take stock of where you are and where you are going in life. Do not hesitate to take a careful, honest and through examination of your efforts in life. If you are satisfied that your goals are worthy and attainable then stay the course. If, however, you find that your goals are not worthy or are completely unobtainable then, by all means, set another course.
Don't give up a worthy goal because it is hard. Anyone can obtain an easy goal. The pursuit of a difficult but worthy goal is the essence of persistence.
Don't strive to reach an impossible goal. Be reasonable. I would like to become an astronaut but at 61 years of age it is impossible.

THOGHT FOR THE DAY- MAY 3, 2007
TOLERANCE- A MODEST PROPOSAL
A version of "The Golden Rule" is incorporated into every religion. So why don't we practice it?
Imagine someone comes to your door and declares that your religion is "false" and that you must change your core beliefs or suffer some violent consequence. Imagine that the issue is something else like your form of government, social order or even language. Would you willingly adapt to the demands of such a visitor? Probably not.
Intolerance is founded upon the belief that only one model of religion, government, society, language or whatever is right. The one the "true believer" has what he thinks is the "right" answer. The problem comes in where we try to force the other person to our way of believing.
Millions have died an millions more have suffered grievously at the hands of "True believers". What has made them so zealous? Intolerance.
If we want to remain comfortable in our beliefs, why can't we allow the same for our neighbor, countryman or fellow member of our species regardless of race, creed, color or anything else for that matter,
So long as the other person's beliefs do not actively cause harm to others where is the problem ?
Maybe Rodney King's words have merit" "Can't we all just get along?"

A GOOD DAY TO DIE
I'd like to make every day of the rest of my life a good day to die.
The recognition of my own mortality has helped me realize that I should strive to shed the tribulations of my past, make peace with all persons and prepare to face the inevitable.
When I shuffle off this mortal coil I hope I will have said and done everything I ever intended.
I don't wish to lie in my deathbed wishing I'd said or did something of merit.

LAW DAY 2007- THE RULE OF LAW
Common sense and honest introspection would move or society from one of litigation to one of cooperation and life under the Rule of Law.
I, as a practicing lawyer, used to say: "If everyone told the truth all of the time we lawyers would not be necessary".
My job was to present the "Truth" in the light most favorable to my client. I discovered that not everyone was convinced of my client's position. Frequently I found that clients hired Lawyers in order to obscure the facts. Had they been completely honest they would've realized the weakness of their position.
We have a marvelous albeit imperfect system of Laws. The Achilles heel of our system is the fact that people lie. If they told the truth and applied the Law to the truth the decision would usually become self-evident.
Before you start a lawsuit or continue with the one you are in ask yourself truthfully how honest your position is. Maybe you'll find more time to live your life rather than waste precious time fighting in Court.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY-APRIL 30, 2007
FORGIVE AND (don't) FORGET.
For a healthier mind learn to forgive the harm caused by others. Carrying around anger and resentment increases blood pressure, causes ulcers and loss of sleep. Besides, it lets the other jerk to continue to annoy you without ant effort.
Forgiveness is the key to putting these problems in the past. You can then concentrate on enjoying whatever is left of your life.
Forgetting, however, is just plain stupid.
Forgetting makes you vulnerable to be harmed by the same person or situation again.
An old saying goes; "He who does not learn from history is condemned to repeat it."
Another saying goes; "To err is human, to forgive devine".
Go ahead, be devine, just don't be stupid.

During the coming week try to tell someone important in your life that you love them.
You know you do, they know you do, so why not say it? It won't cost you a dime and might make you feel better.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY APRIL 28, 2007
How do we remember our ex-wives/husbands/lovers?
I've had exes, I'm sure you have too.
My memories of past loves used to dwell on the negative side of the spectrum. I allowed the sadness and hurt to adhere to me and I allowed the resentment, anger and wounded pride to guide my daily thoughts. It made my stomach hurt.
My big idea is this: REMEMBER ALL EXES FOR THE JOY AND LOVE (HOWEVER BRIEF) THEY GAVE YOU. There was a time you felt as though you were the only two people on the planet. You felt and swore eternal love-and actually meant it.
Remember your ex(S) for the love and joy they brought you. For a time, you were happy. Your life was enriched if only for a time.
We may not love the person our ex has now become. But we will always love our ex for what they used to be. Why not remember them for the good times?

WHY SO MANY PEOPLE IN THE WORLD HATE AMERICANS:
They're jealous. They're envious. We have so much and they have so little.
The problem is not so much as we Americans are generally affluent, the problem is that we won't share our blessings with the rest of the World.
We will spend more on attending one sports event as we would ever dream of sending to a global charity such as UNICEF or the Red Cross.
Imagine the good will we could generate by simply sharing some of our good fortune.
Sure, we can talk about foreign aid, but where does such money really go and for what purpose. We will send foreign aid aid in order to secure some agenda which has little or nothing to do with goodwill. Why have we sent aid to characters such as Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, Manuel Noriega and Ferdinand Marcos? Politics, economics, military strategy come well ahead of "humanitarian" goals in our foreign aid.
Solution: Give the cost of attending a basketball game to the legitimate charity of your choice.
Besides, it is deductible!

Thought of the day
From time to time I will be sharing my limited intelligence and numerous opinions with the willing listener. The purpose is not so much to persuade or even educate the reader as it is to vent my own slanted points of view. Accordingly, please read at the expense of wasting your time.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: WAR, what is it good for? If we, as a race, could eliminate all wars previously fought where would our world now be? Consider the assets and efforts which, if put to constructive as opposed to destructive goals, would've made our present planet a nicer place in which to dwell.
Consider the elimination of future war as a means to accomplish future disputes.
The Rule of Law would determine right/wrong on any issue. The parties and their followers would be bound by such determinations, finally!
What would happen if the global war production were changed to improving our world? We have the means to provide food and potable water throughout our planet. Why haven't we done so? The obvious answer is money. We, as a species, are spendng so much of our resources on war that we cannot afford peace. But really, can we afford more war? Where are we going as a species on our present path?
