GIANT CLAMS


Here is a pic taken at Maokai island where GIANT clams are grown for relocating to touristy dive sites.

What do they do with those giant clams? What are they used for? They are amazing, never seen anything like it!

These clams are grow until they are "Giant" then they are relocated to dive sites for the tourists to see. Giant clams are quite rare due to overharvesting in years gone by. Today the Fijian government has laws against taking or harming these creatures but it will probably take hundreds of years to repopulate the reefs around Fiji. These clams are still relatively common in the more remote Pacific Islands such as Midway.
